建于北京朝阳区东坝第四使馆区的这座新校园为这片新兴社区带来了勃勃生机。用地位于五环路七棵树桥以东，北侧紧邻坝河，南至规划西坝南路，西北至东坝西环路。位于社区中心位置的东坝小学占地17300平方米，地上建筑面积13840平方米，总高度18米。校园仿佛以许多不均匀建筑物体量围合形成庭院、天井、操场等公共空间，使人联想到老北京的城市历史，也引申到建筑文化遗产的演化。

Built on the Fourth Embassy Zone of Dongba, Chaoyang District in Beijing, this new school brings vitality to neighboring communities. The project is located to the east of Qikeshu Bridge of Fifth Ring Road, adjacent to Bahe River on the north, south to Xiba South Road, and connects to Dongba West Ring Road on the northwest. Located in the centre of the community, Dongba Primary School covers an area of 17300m2, with above ground building area of 13840m2 and total height of 18 meters. The campus seems like a combination of a series of unevenly distributed architecture volume, such as courtyard, open yard and other public space, which evokes the long history of Beijing, also the evolution of architectural heritage.

    由于地形较为狭长，校园通过南北方向的左右两侧轴线布置多组不同属性的庭院空间。沿着左侧轴线安排两个室外庭院，将主要功能空间分为普通教室、风雨操场、图书馆和教师办公三个部分，既满足小学日照要求，又在合理设置室外运动场的同时，减少功能区之间的声音干扰；沿着右侧轴线安排两组室内中庭，将附属功能空间--自然科学实验室、学生活动厅、餐厅和厨房、美术教室、音乐教室、舞蹈教室、计算机教室等布置在各自独立的区域内。教学空间犹如漂浮的岛屿，公共空间犹如潺潺流动的河水。

According to the long and narrow site, the campus consists of several units of courtyard space with different attributes, through north-south axis both left side and right side. As the main functional space, two exterior courtyards along the left axis are divided into three parts: general classroom, playground, library & teacher’s office, which guarantee the sunshine requirement, simultaneously reducing sound interference among functional areas. As the auxiliary functional space, two sets of indoor atrium along the right axis are divided into several separate areas: natural science labs, student activity hall, dining-room & kitchen, art room, music room, dance room, computer room, etc. Different areas in the teaching space are like floating islands while the public space is like a flowing river.

    教学楼每层均有安全、舒适、明亮的宽大走廊和采光内庭，让学生们拥有更多自由交流的机会，充分释放孩子们活泼好动的天性。内部空间在横向和纵向上都能够相互联系，互相渗透，从而创造出一系列位于不同高度的公共开敞空间。走廊、庭院、大厅、平台借助良好的采光通风条件，流畅的、有方向引导性的布局，共同营造出连续的动态空间体验，形成宁静独立的教学分区。分区间达到微妙异同、循环流动的意境，实现空间类型的多样化与可参与性。

All levels of the teaching building are safe and comfortable, with bright and spacious corridors, and light-filled indoor atrium, offering children with more free space. The inner space is interconnected and permeable vertically and horizontally which forms a series of common open zones at different heights. With natural light and air conditions, corridors, courtyards, halls and platforms are designed in good fluency and directionality, jointly enable a continuous dynamic spatial experience, forming a quiet and independent teaching zone, realizing the diversification and participation of specific elements.

    交通入口在东侧进入中央大厅，连接坡度缓、尺度宽的平台楼梯；北侧向上通过宽大的室外台阶到达风雨操场的二层平台，向下可达室外运动场；西侧经过图书馆的两层共享空间进入教师办公区。

The traffic entrance leads to the central hall from east, connecting platform stairs with smooth slope and wide scale. From the north side, reach upward to the second platform of the playground through large outdoor steps, downward to the sports ground. From the west side, enter teacher’s office through two levels of shared space of the library.

    建筑物的墙体和植被屋顶都含有强化绝缘材料，通过高效保护手段最大程度减少热耗。屋顶光电池膜为建筑提供了源源不断的可再生能源。

The buildings are well protected to minimize heat loss, with reinforced insulation in the walls and green roofs. The solar photovoltaic cell membrane on the roof provides steady renewable energy.
